Details:
As a member of the All Saints Knights of Columbus, Joe will be celebrating his birthday and spending the day on Saturday, October 5th at the Habitat for Humanity build for All Saints House # 26.
Atlanta Habitat for Humanity is honored to have All Saints Catholic Church join us as a catalyst for neighborhood revitalization! By helping to build quality, affordable houses in safe, vibrant neighborhoods, we are creating opportunities for our working homebuyer families to thrive and to achieve many other dreams.
Likely Tasks for the Day: This will be the sixth build day for this house. Likely tasks will include continuing interior and exterior painting, installing baseboard, window sills and miscellaneous interior trim, installing kitchen cabinets and countertops, and continuing soffit and fascia. No previous construction experience is required.
Homebuyer Family: The homebuyers for this house are Mr. King and Ms. Sadler, along with their granddaughter and granddaughter's fiance. Mr. King is a security guard and a minister. Ms. Sadler babysits and plans weddings. Together, they have four children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. They are both very active in their church and in their community, from feeding the homeless to participating in the Pittsburgh neighborhood association. They are very excited about the opportunity to build their home in their existing Pittsburgh neighborhood.
The King and Sadler family (like all Atlanta Habitat homebuyers) will purchase this house with a no-interest loan. They will make a down payment of $750, pay a monthly mortgage, put in 250 "sweat equity" hours, and attend 12 homeowner education classes. Monthly mortgage payments will be approximately $575 - $620 and include escrow for taxes, insurance, a termite bond and a maintenance savings fund, in addition to repayment of the loan at no interest.
Time Commitment: You must commit to working for the full build day. All volunteers are needed to help clean up at the end of the workday.
Age Requirements: The minimum age for volunteers is 16. No one under age 16 will be allowed on site.
Lunch, snacks and beverages will be provided.
