ABOUT JOE
Joe Seconder was elected to the Dunwoody City Council in November 2019 and began serving in January 2020.
He is a retired United States Army major and an Operation Iraqi Freedom combat veteran with 23 years of military service. In 2003, Joe was mobilized and deployed to Kuwait, where he served as a staff officer in a two-star general officer command.
Joe also brings more than 30 years of professional experience in human-capital management and information technology. He began his career as a technical consultant and advanced into project and program leadership, managing complex, large-scale system initiatives—including international projects—for Fortune 100 companies, government organizations and Department of Defense agencies.
Joe spent nearly six years living and working in Europe and held project leadership roles involving teams and organizations across Switzerland, Germany, England, France, Italy, Scotland, Denmark, Northern Ireland and Spain.

Public Service and Professional Development
Community Leadership Before City Council
Before his election to City Council, Joe served on the board of the Dunwoody Homeowners Association, the Dunwoody Sustainability Committee, and the advisory committee that helped develop Dunwoody’s Master Transportation Plan. Joe founded Bike Walk Dunwoody, and previously served as board member and president of Go Georgia formerly known as Georgia Bikes, as statewide nonprofit organization. In 2018, the City of Dunwoody recognized him with it's Sustainability Hero Award.
Continuing Education in Office
As a member of the Dunwoody City Council, Joe has continued his professional development through the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute. As of June 30, 2026, he has earned 105 training credits and received the Institute’s Certificate of Achievement. The program is offered jointly by the Georgia Municipal Association and the University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government.
Statewide Municipal Leadership
Joe presently serves on the Transportation Policy Committee of the Georgia Municipal Association, working alongside municipal leaders from across the state on issues affecting Georgia’s cities.
Approach to Public Service
Joe believes public service requires listening to residents, studying the facts, asking thoughtful questions and explaining how decisions are made. He views his role as that of an elected citizen advocate—bringing residents’ concerns into City Hall while helping the community better understand the opportunities, limitations and tradeoffs involved in local government.
Life Outside City Hall
Joe and his wife, Kathleen, enjoy being active in the Dunwoody community and exploring Georgia together. Joe is an avid cyclist and also enjoys hiking and kayaking in the north Georgia mountains and along Georgia’s coastal barrier islands. Kathleen is active in regional community theater and can regularly be seen performing on local stages. Together, they enjoy attending community events, theater productions and the many activities that make Dunwoody a special place to call home.
